View All FIP WarriorsI knew from the first second I saw a picture of Winnie she was meant for me. I lived thousands of miles away from the shelter she was in. The shelter accidentally posted a picture of her on the website. I applied only to find out she was accidentally uploaded and was being sent to a shelter up north. To my surprise it was a shelter 3 miles from my home. See what I mean Winnie and I were meant to be. Fast forward to a year later my sweet beloved Winnie was losing weight, not eating, vomiting and had alien like diarrhea. After multiple vet visits with no answers, we took her to our local emergency hospital. Winnie was admitted into the ICU and we were told she either had lymphoma or FIP. It was later confirmed to be dry FIP. I was devastated, I knew Winnie was dying and I felt like there was nothing that could be done. Fortunately for us one of the internal medicine veterinarians gave me a name on the DL of course since we can’t talk about this life saving treatment. Within minutes I was in the warrior group. And we were off on a journey of hope and courage. Winnie led the way, I was her momager. I secured medication and for the first time in a long while trusted in the love and kindness of complete strangers. Winnie started her official FIP journey on December 5th. We gave 84 days of injections and went to soooo many vet appointments. The injections were so hard some days. We had good days and bad days. The silver lining was each day I gave her the injection I saw life return to her eyes. I saw a cat who was almost dead live life but not just live it, thrive at it and want things again and enjoy her existence. I saw how miraculous this treatment is before my very own eyes. After 84 days of treatment and appointments and perseverance and courage Winnie still lead the way and on May 21st my warrior Winnie was told she was cured. I cried and broke down because for the first time I could look her in her eyes with certainty she could live. Since treatment has ended Winnie has not looked back. Winnie is living her best life playing with her sisters, playing with her toys, birdwatching, getting belly rubs and just enjoying life. Without FIP warriors and this medication none of this would be possible. We are forever grateful and inspired one day this treatment will be easier to obtain and more affordable so everyone can afford it and not have to make difficult decisions that are literally life and death.
