FIP Warrior:

Pistachio

Pistachio was picked up by a good Sam after being found in a parking lot at around 8 weeks old. He was brought to my small rescue where he was socialized and ready to be put up for adoption. However, during his neuter, he was tested for FELV and came out positive for the disease. We still offered him for adoption to a home that had no other cats or other FELV cats. After months of sharing, we decided in January that he would become a permanent part of our family. In March, we noticed he was looking thinner, had oily, greasy fur and just wasn’t himself. After many tests it was confirmed he had the wet form of FIP. We started treatment the same night we received the diagnosis. At 7 months old he was a sad 3.97 pounds. It took about 2 weeks for him to start “bouncing back” and gaining weight. There were many days he hid from us, and didn’t want anything to do with us ever. I began to feel like maybe this treatment was ruining him. He used to be so snuggly and loving, to the point where you were annoyed. But I missed being annoyed by his affection. We continued with treatment. He was always good for injections even though they were painful and he hated them. But I feel like he knew it was helping him because once we caught him he never put up a fight even after he started feeling better. After 84 days of medication he entered observation. Everything went fantastic! After a week into observation, he realized we weren’t doing anymore injections and now is back to his obnoxiously needy, lovey self! As of September 27th, 2021, after 84 days of observation, he was considered cured! He made it to see his first birthday in October, a day I didn’t think he would see. I am so happy I opted to go through with treatment. He is the best little buddy I could ever imagine.
