In july 2020 we bought a maine coon x ragdoll. He had been ill with chronic diarrhea and was half bald with burns from it and very small. He seemed to recover but within 2 weeks started to become lethargic. He was 4 months old and 2lb in weight. In August he got a fip diagnosis and we were told no more than 5 weeks to live. Devastated we researched the disease which lead us to fip warriors. Within hours we were on our way for meds. The trauma of treatment began. 6 weeks in our 16 month old wilson developed a cough. He was treated for that but didnt respond so a test was done. The dreaded fip. This time we were ready and started treatment straight away. In October our 5 yr old Ted had trouble with his bladder. After 2 weeks of meds/bladder flushes he wasnt better and was prepared for a scan. Thats when severe jaundice was disvovered and he wasnt just fat but was actually losing weight but gaining fluid. Coupled with his bladder issue the decision to be pts was made. Our vet knew we were having success with treatment but felt this time it was not the right decision. I regret not trying. While this was going on our kitten jimmy now 4 months old wasnt gaining weight and just "not quite right". Tests showed nothing. By 5 months old he was half the weight he should be and it was decided to treat as a diagnostic tool. One last
blood test was done with sedation to see if we had a start point. Big mistake! Within hours he was paralysed. We made him comfortable and gave him an injection and waited. 12 hours later we were greeted by jimmy shouting for breakfast and running (wobbling) to the kitchen! He improved every day. Pepe was cured in November, wilson was cured in February and jimmy cured in April. They are beautiful, healthy, naughty, loving boys.
