FIP Warrior:

Hiro

Little Hiro came into this world as a stray. A friend and his wife were coming home from an outing and saw this little tuft of orange in the freeway off ramp lanes. They pulled over and he jumped out of the car, ran into the lane and scooped up Hiro. They tried to find his kitty family but were unsuccessful in reuniting him. They took him home, and cleaned him up. They tried to introduce him to their fur kids, but their boys weren't having it.

They brought Hiro to a rescue that a family member is a part of. They said that he was about 4 weeks old. The rescue took Hiro in and cared for him. Hiro met other kitties, played with them, helped new kitties feel welcome and was a complete snuggle bug with the people in the foster home.

The rescue had Hiro altered and got his first shots. Then it was time for Hiro to go up for adoption. My friend adopted him back and asked my husband and I if we were ready for a new fur kid. We had been discussing it for a while as our Lexicat was showing signs of being lonely while we were at work. My friend gifted Hiro to us.

Of course it was the typical slow and go bringing a baby into a house with an older kitty. My husband and I took turns sleeping on the couch the first two weeks so each fur kid got sleepy snuggle time with us. By the end of the two weeks Hiro and Lexicat were cohabitating without barriers.

Hiro's favorite spot to snuggle is up under my chin while he makes biscuits on either side of my neck. He loves his green and yellow springs to play with and will play fetch when he's in the mood. Hiro also loves his feather toy and watching the hummingbirds at the feeder on our balcony.

We brought Hiro and Lexicat in for well kitty visits in September and that's when we received the horrible shocking news that Hiro has Dry FIP, and that the vet can do nothing for us. She said that there is an experimental treatment available and that we should look into it. The issue is that it is not approved for use in the US. So it is expensive.

My husband and I did the research and found an FIP Warrior group on Facebook that has kitties that have been cured and were involved with the original study. So we reached out and got Hiro on the treatment right away.

We set up a Go Fund Me to help us with affording the medicine and many have helped us. Hiro is responding fantastically to it! He's playing again, he's snuggling again his appetite it back to normal. Hiro is our goofy, silly, ball of ginger kitty energy again!

At this writing we are 60 days into the shots out of 84. We're struggling to get funds for the next (and hopefully final) round of the medication. As well as the vet visits for Hiro for his check ups and blood work.

Hiro is our little sun spot, our gift, our son. As we are unable to have human children. Please help us continue this life saving treatment for Hiro.

UPDATE: As of July 2022 FIP Warrior Hiro is now an FIP Survivor and considered cured:).

Thank you.
