Hello, my name is Jade. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to hear our story.
About a month ago my husband and I noticed a cat hanging out in our driveway. We recently moved from a different state so assumed this was probably someone’s outdoor cat. He stuck around and after a few days we got a closer look at him. He had an injured eye, was pretty skinny, and was super dirty. We took him into our home and got him to the vet. No microchip and he turned out to be most affectionate and sweet cat. We named him Amos and found out he’s around 2 or 3. In the short amount of time we’ve shared we formed a tight bond that I will cherish forever.
After our second vet visit and finally being able to get bloodwork done, we found out Amos likely has a viral disease called Feline Infectious Peritonitis or FIP. The preliminary diagnosis was due to his bloodwork showing a high protein count and ratio. We are still unsure of what’s causing the third eyelid to cover his left eye but there’s a possibility that it could be related to FIP.
When I found out the news I was absolutely devastated. Many people will tell you (my vet included) that FIP is a death sentence. That is simply not the case. Unfortunately, the diagnostics and treatment are quite expensive and we aren’t able to cover all of the costs ourselves. We will be using the money raised to do additional testing to confirm or refute the FIP diagnosis, figure out what’s going on with his eye, and to treat and manage any symptoms of whatever Amos is going through.
Amos deserves to live a long spoiled life and we won’t give up on him. Thank you again for your time and any contribution you may decide to make.
