View All FIP WarriorsWe adopted Max from our local Humane Society in May 2023 as an 8 week old kitten after we lost our oldest of 3 cats. Shortly after getting Max we welcomed 2 Maine Coons; Geralt and Fanya. All three were within one month of each other age wise, with Max being the baby, but the most cuddly and tenacious. They are truly three peas in a pod, but Max and Geralt have the most special bond.
After losing yet another of our older cats in March 2024 we noticed Max slowly got lethargic, wasn't eating and his third eyelids were constantly extended. We got the FIP diagnosis on a Sunday in early May, but the ER doctor told me to reach out to FIP Warriors.
Within 12 hours, I was driving 2 hours to get our starter meds. We made it through 18 injections and 66 oral med days to get through Max's 84 days of treatment. It took him a good 10 days to start showing significant improvement because he had a fever he just could not shake, but after that it was smooth sailing! Had it not been for the amazing ER doctor, admins, all of the incredible FIP Warrior parents in our state, and Max's strength and pure will to survive we would not be entering into his observation phase. Nervous for potential relapse, but I know every day from here on out is a gift.
I am grateful beyond words that I still have my beautiful snuggle buddy and personal bath giver. We are also so pleased treatment is now available with vet oversight, and hipe the cost continues to decrease so all cat families can afford it.
Max will forever be my hero!!
