Hi! This is our boy, Titan. He is just over 9 months old. He is loyal and very affectionate. I love that he is curious and if we can’t locate him, we eventually find him in a funny place. The kids love him and they always want to greet him as soon as we get home!
Just after the new year is when we first met, fell in love with, and adopted Titan from our local animal shelter. Titan fit in well with our family and was adored immediately by our two sons. Sadly, within weeks, Titan’s health deteriorated rapidly. We had to take him to an emergency veterinarian over a weekend. Titan was diagnosed with FIP and the emergency veterinarian recommended to euthanize Titan immediately. A quick Google search showed that there was an alternative treatment and a supportive community available. We left the emergency veterinarian immediately and never returned. Thank God!
FIP is a fatal coronavirus infection in felines. The alternative treatment works in either one, or two, 84-day cycles. Without the treatment, the virus kills the kitten within months. The symptoms are horror such as their belly swelling with yellow fluid, fever, lethargy, eye discharge, inability to balance/wobbly, and eventually death.
We linked up with FIP Warriors and a network group who helped us out with medicine and support immediately. Titan successfully went through an 84-day treatment of FIP antiviral medicine, and he did tremendously well. Sadly, while in observation, about a week or so after completing the treatment, his FIP symptoms came back. It was determined that he had underlying neurological issues that went unnoticed during treatment. He CAN successfully go through treatment and beat this.
We are on our second round of the 84-day treatment and are seeking help to financially get through this time, so that Titan has a fair shake at life. We initially spent over at least $3100 on Titan.
This time around he needs a higher dose of medication to treat the neurological issues.
If we don’t receive the funds we need, we will unfortunately have to end up surrendering him, or he may succumb to the release of FIP.
