FIP Warrior:

Everest

About 2.5 years ago, we rescued Everest from a neglectful household. Shortly after, we also rescued her baby sister, as the owner did not bother to spay their cat. In January of this year, we noticed Everest was not doing well - she was losing weight, had no appetite, and was having trouble using the bathroom. After six vet visits, numerous exams, and treatments including antibodies and steroids (which were not covered by insurance), we decided to insure all three of our house cats. Following our April visit, we received the devastating news that Everest had FIP, a fatal disease not covered by insurance. Fortunately, our vet connected us with resources outside of insurance, including the FIP group and supportive individuals in our community. We seized this opportunity knowing it was Everest's last hope for survival. After the first treatment, she showed remarkable improvement, but complications from the delayed diagnosis led to emergency surgery. Despite this setback, we continued with daily treatments, and after completing the 26th shot, Everest has gained 1.82lbs and is enjoying the life she deserves. To fund her ongoing care, we launched a GoFundMe campaign and created Instagram and TikTok accounts to raise awareness and gather support. We are grateful for Everest's recovery and remain hopeful that this journey will have a positive outcome in the long run.
