View All FIP WarriorsSultan was a not very social community cat who started showing up in early 2020. Over the course of the next year I had him neutered, found out he was FIV+, and started taking care of his broken teeth and dental disease. He gradually became more social and transitioned slowly into a house cat. Bate cat #14! His non-confrontational demeanor helped him blend in quickly.
Fast forward to late summer 2023. Sultan started showing signs of illness over the course of a few weeks - weight loss, declining appetite, abdominal discomfort. Through blood work, ultrasound, and exploratory surgery a pyogranulomatous mass in his abdomen was revealed. Histopathology with special stains and PCR gave us the diagnosis of FIP. I was already aware of FIP Warriors and the treatment that was successfully treating so many cats. They were so responsive and helped me connect with someone local to get treatment started while my order processed. We started seeing signs of improvement within a few days.
This big guy didn’t take the injections well at all. And, due to his size, the volume of injections was large. But we stuck with it for 2/3 of the 12 week treatment before transitioning to oral capsules. We developed a nightly cream cheese “puff” ritual that has continued sans medication.
Sultan’s treatment was extended 28 days. I was reluctant to stop because he appeared healthier than ever - vibrant and playful with a twinkle in his eye.
But here we are - 12 weeks of observation in the books and Sultan has been cured of FIP.
We are incredibly grateful for the treatment that enabled us to save his life. We are also eternally grateful to the team of admins who selflessly provided direction, support, guidance, and compassion through their time, energies, and expertise. Theirs is a labor of love.
I hope to find a way that I can help others who find themselves in the heart wrenching predicament that we did. So glad that FIP is no longer a death sentence. And so proud of my Warrior Sultan ❤️
